Origins & Early Inspiration

I was born and raised in East Africa, where my love for arts and crafts first took root. After pursuing further education in the United Kingdom, I moved to Minnesota with my husband, who was completing his studies. During our early years in the U.S., we spent summers exploring the Midwest, visiting art galleries, studios, and fairs. I collected pieces that spoke to me—jewelry, ceramics, paintings—while continuing to explore crafts such as sewing, embroidery, and knitting.

A Journey into Painting

My first formal introduction to painting came through a watercolor class gifted by my husband in Wisconsin. Though I enjoyed it immensely, life’s responsibilities—work and family—left little time to pursue it further. After relocating to Phoenix 25 years ago, I remained connected to the art world through gallery visits and fairs, even as my professional life kept me busy.

Upon retiring in 2017 at the age of 74, I embraced the opportunity to fully dedicate myself to painting. With encouragement from my children, I enrolled in acrylic and watercolor classes and immersed myself in online tutorials to refine my technique and rediscover my creative voice.

Growth & Community

Joining the Sonoran Arts League marked a pivotal moment in my artistic journey. Through exhibitions, community events, and collaborations, I’ve had the privilege of sharing my work with a wider audience and connecting with fellow artists. My husband’s transformation of our second garage into a dedicated studio space has further empowered me to expand my practice and explore new directions.

Artistic Style & Vision

I currently work in both acrylics and watercolor, with a focus on landscapes, seascapes, florals, and wildlife. My style leans toward impressionism, favoring loose, intuitive brushwork and the luminous transparency of watercolor. I strive to create pieces that evoke emotion and invite viewers to experience the passion and joy embedded in each composition.
